Welcome to Coffee & Saints!
In my many years of working in Youth Ministry with several different Catholic Churches, I have found that the saints are some of the most underrated people in Catholicsim. I have become somewhat of a “Saint Nerd” – looking up different saints and learning as much about them as I can. Scouring the internet for saints is definitely one way to learn about them; however, it is hard to connect with some of their stories, especially if they lived centuries ago! But what if we could hit up our favorite local coffee shop and sit across from a Saint and listen to them share about his or her life?
There’s a Saint for that!
Just like all of us, the saints are each unique human beings. Each of them were blessed with their own gifts and talents and they shared them with the people they encountered. Many of their talents are what they became the Patron Saint of, which means, there is a patron saint for pretty much anything! Do you enjoy playing sports? Saint Sebastian is your guy! Do you enjoy coffee? Saint Drogo might just become your new best friend! Do you have a love for mission work and serving others? Saint Teresa of Calcutta would love to intercede for you!
Road Signs to Heaven
A young man that is newer to the scene named Blessed Carlo Acutis said, “The Eucharist is the highway to Heaven.” I absolutely love this phrase! Jesus died for us, giving us the incredible gift of eternity with God. When we are faced with the Eucharistic species, Heaven and Earth collide – as all of the angels and Saints (both canonized and not!) come to worship Jesus! I would like to take this visual from Carlo a step further and add that if the Eucharist is the “highway to Heaven”, then the Saints are the road signs. They are there showing us the way, helping to guide us on our journey to eternity with God.
You are invited to join me as we grab a coffee in a cute little cafe and chat with a saint!
